One of the concept of GTD is the Tickler file, how do you guys implement it? I am from Toodledo and I have used the Start Date and Due Date from Toodledo.
However, it seems like Start Time in DOIT is something more than just a date, since it have Today/Tomorrow attached to it.
So what I want to achieve is that, let say every month I need to pay a bill, but I do not want it to come up in my "list" until 5 days prior to the due date. This was easy to accomplish in Toodledo, where I set
Start Date = 25th Jan 2014
Due Date = 30th Jan 2014
Repeat = Every Month
And then I just select to view "All Tasks", then sort by Due Date, with "Show Future Tasks" turned off.
Is there a way to accomplish something similar?
I use Scheduled purely as a Tickler file. These tasks will show up in Today on the star date you set, and if you do not intend to do it that day you "unstar" it, which will move it to Next.
Yes, Doit has a very confusing (an inefficient) definition of its "boxes" and its famous "death star" (Today). This has been the subject of many complaints in the main forum, but the developers have expressed their firm persistence.
But you can definitely go ahead and use Scheduled as your Tickler file. That's what I do, and it works fine. (You can just ignore Tomorrow etc.) To avoid any confusion with calendar actions (appointments etc) I never use Scheduled for these. I enter these in GCal, and I have set up GCal to automatically send an email reminder to Doit 15 hours ahead of the meeting.
