Desktop client vs Web app?

Is there any advantage of one over the other? As far as I can tell, the functionality of each are equivalent. In both cases, you data lives in the cloud, correct (no local copy, no offline access)?

  Well the difference for me is that the Windows version crashed more than Enron stock, so I had to dump it. Which annoyed me because I really wanted the desktop app so I wasn't doing everything in a tabbed browser. I believe Lisa and others have had similar issues.
  
  Beyond that, I didn't notice a real difference in functionality.

  I guess I'm not understanding how your experience of using it in a browser would be different from using it in a (non-crashing) desktop client if the functionality is the same.

  The more tabs open, the smaller the tabs, the harder is to know which is which. Just a minor thing for me.

  Not sure if there really is an intended difference. The Windows app has always been behind in some sense or other - less reliable, less complete etc., so I simply do not use it. This is still the case, except that the web app has not yet had its cosmetic overhaul as per "v4" (or some of the other less important "improvements" in v4).
  
  I had always thought that the Windows app was intended to be offline capable - if not, I cannot quite see the reason to even have it. And even web apps can be offline capable, like Nirvana, so it would seem as if Doit might have the opportunity to clear out both the Windows and Mac apps. No?

  It seems that way to me. They might do better to drop the desktop apps and free the people that work on those up to contribute to the web and mobile apps.

  I am a newbie (about a month) and have used all platforms (Windows, Mac, iPhone and Kindle Fire HDX) and thus far had no issues. The Windows clinet crashed once, but I use it often. Everything on each platform synchs up well so multiplatform is definitly a plus for me. I paid the 20 bucks for the year and very satrisfied. Left nirvana for this. The only thing with Windows is cosmetically pretty bad, and some of the fonts do not look clean. I also cannot seem to get an avatar on the web version - no matter what I upload, it says it's more than 500 KB, even when the upload is less. Anyone have that issue? I see you all have Avatars, just cannot seem to upload mine.

  In general I use the Windows client and find it quite stable.
  There are some things that I much prefer on the web version:
  1. The main pane on the left (Collect, Focus, Projects, etc) of the window cannot be resized in the windows version. Some of my project names are long (with similar beginnings for quasi-grouping) and you can't read them all.
  2. You can click on the task name or the task line and this opens 2 different editing views where as the windows version only gets the one. This makes it easier to reassign the focus or reschedule reminders.
  3. The windows version does not seem to have access to archived tasks only completed ones.

  Thanks for that tip, did not realize it yet! But it seems like the way it works is: clicking the task title opens the task in a separate view, double clicking the line opens a pop-up window.

  For me, a global shortcut that lets me quick add a task at any time is reason enough for a desktop client.
