Next and scheduled for today

Hi..
Iam using doit.im since couple of weeks and trying to implement gtd on this..
I am bit confused in the tasks which show up on Today and Next,
Say, if I've entered a task few days back & scheduled it for today it shows up in today.. And if I enter a task without a scheduled date and deadline it'll show up in next tab..
How do you guys deal with the tasks in each of the categories while executing these tasks??
I mean, how do you choose tasks from different tabs ( next & Today)?

  Plain Next without any dates at all would be the standard for most actions for most people who follow GTD.
  
  A deadline is something you can apply if there really is a "last possible" date to do the task. On the deadline day Doit will brutally move it away from Next and onto the Today list even though it is still a next action. This is annoying, but something we have to live with for now.
  
  Scheduled is something you would use primarily if there is a "first possible" date ("not before" date). This corresponds to the GTD Tickler file (incubation). Doit will place these on the Today list, and you will have to move them manually to Next or Waiting or Trash or wherever they actually belong.
  
  You could also use Scheduled for GTD Calendar actions, e.g. appointments, but you probably have a separate calendar for these.

  @Folke Thanks for the reply,
  
  So, Moving manually the tasks from Today to Next is the right way. at least on doit.
  Iam doing the same exercise during my Daily Plan-Routine, and was just wondering weather Iam I doing the correct thing.
  
  While Entering most the task i assign them with Context Project and Probable date & when that date arrives, I move the Doable tasks to Next, and defer some tasks further.

  Instead of fiddling with "probable dates" for perfectly actionable next actions - which is distinctly un-GTD, and requires a lot of re-re-rescheduling, and which hides these actions from view if a good situational opportunity to do them shows up, and which also has the big disadvantage that you cannot tell the difference between these artificial dates and true objective "impossible before" dates (called tickler dates in GTD) etc or agreed appointments etc (called calendar actions in GTD) or objectively stipulated deadlines (such as contracted delivery dates etc) - I advise you to consider using the colored Priority flag. This flag (when red) helps you avoid losing sight of the urgent or important tasks, and also (when turquoise) helps you avoid drowning in uncritical stuff when you inspect/review your lists. You have all actionable actions fully available and visible on the Next list, and can let the Priority color guide your attention. This is what I do, anyway.

  From my opinion I think that Doit meant that you should finish Today's tasks before moving to the Next tasks.

  Yes, no doubt that is what they meant. On the other hand Doit claims to be supporting GTD, which emphasizes dynamic decisions about what you will do.
  
  Many GTD apps (and even Gmail etc) have a star or similar icon that you can turn on or off without in any way moving or changing the item that you star. In GTD apps this means the item can remain on the Next or Waiting list and still be visible for your convenient attention on the Starred/Today/Focus list. This allows you to be flexible and change your mind if you need to - just unstar the task. And you can always see all your Next actions (now possible actions) on the Next list, whether they are starred or not, and you can always see everything you expect from other people on the Waiting list, whether starred or not.
