However, after continuing to have sync problems on Nirvana's Android app (this made mobile use completely impossible for me), I decided to have another look at Doit:
1. Doit doesn't have the ability to set a tag or date on several items at once like it does for Project and Context. There are a number of posts here requesting it and I'm optimistic that this feature will be added soon.
2. Doit still doesn't have the "Area" feature like Nirvana, but it sounds like it's on the roadmap. For now, I'm using tags instead. It's just a bit more cumbersome, but I'm ok with it. Of course, I'd like to have the ability to set the area of multiple items at once - like can be done with Project or Context.
3. Filters and subtasks are a nice bonus over Nirvana.
4. Doit's Android app works!!! I had no idea how much productivity and sanity I was losing by not being able to update/review my tasks whenever and wherever I was! For me, this makes up for the relatively minor features I miss from Nirvana.
5. For icing on the cake, I discovered that I could import my Nirvana tasks into Doit. I exported my Nirvana tasks (400 tasks! Way too many, I know!) to a CSV file; Setup Excel filters so that I could create several different imports (Area = Home; Area = Work; Project = ReadPile; etc) for this to be done in steps. Set all START DATEs to 12/1/13; Removed all but the columns that would be imported into Google Calendar (START DATE, SUBJECT (Name), DESCRIPTION (Notes)); Imported to Google Calendar; Did the Doit-GCal sync; In Doit, filtered on date = 12/1/13 so that I could identify the freshly imported items; Multi-select and then set them to a Project and/or Context that lines up with the former Nirvana area.
I'm still working on some cleanup: removing the 12/1/13 dues dates one at a time; manual tagging one at a time.
6. And did I say the Android App works?!!!
Anyway, nice work Doit!
Bob

I also switched to Doit.im from Nirvana and have also found just having a usable phone app has made such a difference. I was on Android and hated the Nirvana app. I never even really used it because it wasn't even worth trying to use. I'm now on an iPhone and am quite impressed with the Doit.im experience. I have a feeling this new version will make me forget Nirvana even existed.

I have also used Nirvana for about two years. It is a very good app, about equally good as Doit. The iPhone apps are equally good. I never had an Android and I did not use the area switch, so those things did not matter to me. I have used and tested many other apps in the past, and Nirvana and Doit are the ones that stand out overall, even if there are other apps that sometimes do particular things better.
What made me move to Doit from Nirvana was the Priority feature. It makes a big difference to my mental calm and daily efficiency. This is how I use it: http://help.doit.im/group/topic/55.
Another feature I like about Doit - even though it is not even half-finished, just a nice little step in the right direction - is the Goals feature, which gives you an extra hierarchical level above projects. Currently you cannot actually use the Goals feature for much, but apparently in Doit's December release the project list under each Goal will become manually sortable, and that will definitely be an improvement, and if Doit also make it possible to see clearly which of the projects are currently active (their tasks visible on the Next and Waiting lists etc) and which projects remain in the "pipeline" (their tasks hidden from those other lists), then the Goals feature will be a better tool for reviewing your long-term plans.
What I particularly miss in Doit, Nirvana and most other apps are convenient and more powerful ad hoc filters (quick filters using buttons etc) that allow you to quickly exclude certain contexts (tags). Doit is particularly tricky as regards ad hoc filtering, because it has its "contexts" split across two different features with different characteristics (contexts and tags; the tags not even visible in the lists). This could be much better harmonized for quick filtering and quicker task entry (defaults) and easy list reviewing, but the upside of all this is that Doit has a very convenient regrouping feature of all lists based on the "main" context, something that Nirvana does not have, and which is something I use and like a lot. -

@Folke
Thanks for the ideas and references to other threads. I´ll try some of the ideas.
@ Wendy_only
Maybe a final question in this thread. You wrote above "It has been in our developing plan to add "Area" feature" . Does it mean it will be in the release next month ?
