no one has ever replied to my above comment, can someone at least comment in some way?
I would really like to know what is going to be in the next release or update and when that will be, is that info anywhere for us to see?
thanks
I am enjoying using doit.im for the most part. I have tried various programs out there and this is much more powerful than the rest and I am behind you guys so keep up the good work! I feel like this time around, I will be able to get the control I need over my tasks, thanks for that.
Saying that, as always there are always going to be some things that need to change, improve in any software, and the more I am able to do in doit, the more I want to do! I am in this boat with many of your other users I see posting on the user groups.
I do want to say I am very impressed with your very fast responses in support to: a-provide an solution if there is one, or b- at least acknowledge the request, and even honestly say that it is or is not in the plans to be done. The team also seem to take on board (at least consider) suggestions from your users seriously, which is greatly appreciated.
I used to work in software development myself and I understand that it can be so frustrating when you have a list of a million suggestions and you cannot do them all in the time you have, you just cannot. Or I also recall the need to get new users on board was often a higher priority than fixing core fundamental problems, so new features were seen as more important as it would bring in new customers. A constant balance between dealing with both types of development needs.
One suggestion I have is to perhaps create a simple survey form for your pro users. Is that a possibility? If you were to review all the bugs, and feature requests that were most asked for, then list them and have your users rate how important these things were to them, then perhaps that might be useful, as you could poll how many people want that issue resolved etc?
But really I just wanted to say thanks for all you are doing to improve the software, and keep up the hard work! Please pass this on to the whole team.

There are so many possible alternatives and adjustments that I cannot list them all. Instead, I will list just three larger "areas of functionality" that I would like to see enhanced quite dramatically overall.
1. Exploit the Goals feature to its fullest
The Goals feature has enormous potential. It is essentially a grouping mechanism for projects. A Goal can represent many things, e.g. a "large" "super-project" that will take years to complete (where the sub-projects are represented by Projects), or a Goal can represent an "area" such as Private, Non-Profit or Business. All these interpretations and possibilities are there already in Doit today, but you cannot to much with it. All you can use it for right now is to keep your left menu tidy.
I would like to be able to group lists by goal, filter lists by goal, see the goal name next to the project name etc etc. The "Goal" parameter needs to equally thoroughly exploited as the Context and Projects parameters are for tasks.
I would also like to be able to view all tasks that belong to a certain goal - like a project view (all "boxes"), but comprising all tasks in the whole goal.
2. Temporary list filtering and rearrangement
Today we have the "group by" feature and the "tag filter". That's better than nothing, but I would like it to be so much more convenient and powerful. If we use the Next list as an example, I would like to be able to say exclude Errands, Calls and John (because it is raining, my phone is broken and John is sick), and exclude the Non-Profit Goal (because I am not in the mood to think about benevolent actions right now) and exclude Low Priority (turquoise) tasks (because I am feeling stressed). And group it by Deadline, then Priority.
I do not want to have to save such filters, or name them, or have to fill in a "form", or have them take up space in my left menu (or anywhere else), because most likely I will not use the same criteria again, not for a long time. I would like quick buttons for all this - there could be a whole "panel" (toolbar) for such rearrangement purposes (filtering/exclusion/inclusion and regrouping).
But I do think it would be useful to save some complex filtering criteria without having to decide which list they are going to be used on. For example, it would be good if I could define a saved, advanced "near future" filter, and subsequently apply that with a single click to any list that I happen to be looking at, e.g. the Next list, a Context list or an individual project list or goal. (And regular advanced, saved searches can also be good sometimes, especially for data integrity validation during your reviews.)
3 And of course: normal starring
Doit is the only app I know with this annoying idea that a next action (possible anytime now) is no longer a next (possible) action just because you star it. Of course it is still possible. It must still be listed on the Next list. Or that a waiting for action is no longer the other person's responsibility just because you star it (or his/her deadline date has arrived, so it is auto-starred). Insane. Really. Must be changed.
And when (if) you change it, I think it would be a very good idea to make use of the start date field to automatically log the date on which I placed the task in this particular GTD category (Next, Waiting, Someday) - would be very useful.
