Not being able to assign a task length, produce an output in the calendar which is very odd.

So far the only work around I have found is to assign task a deadline, but this doesn't sound obvious.

Could you please give us some screenshots that relate to this issue? Which calendar do you refer here? Google calendar or calendar in Doit.im?

Sorry for the confusion. I was referring to the impossibility to setup a length of the task in Doit.im.

This means that means GCalendar to show an entry in the diary whose length is exactly the same of GCalendar meeting default length.
This is unless in Doit.IM user setup both the scheduled time and the deadline.
