Same for me
I can't filter projects by contexts anymore. I need to do this since you don't have an area of responsibility feature. This is crucial to me.
Please change this back!

Wow this update really messed things up. I hope this is resolved soon I was really starting to like DOIT but this was a major step backwards.

Oh and I meant to say that I can't use the "group by" sorting for projects which I normaly have set to contexts. It still work on the ipad/iphone though.

Hi,
On web version,we make some change in the new version. You can manually sort projects,contexts and goals on the right list. Pllease try to click the bar itself to reorder them.
Note: Do not click the top of the bar.
Sorry for this problem.
@avolosik
We will consider it seriously to add "group by" Context in Projects list.
Shall you need any help or have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me back.
Thank you for your support!
Best regards,

OK - But seriously it was working great before and with this update you took a step back.
I need to have projects sorted alphabetically. I can't waste time sorting this stuff manually.
I need to be able to group them by context unless you are actually going to implement areas of responsibility.
I'm really frustrated that this new update seems to have taken away so many features.

@avolosik
I don't know if it would suit your needs, but instead of using contexts for your "roles" or "groups of roles" you could consider using "phony" projects and "phony" goals like I do: http://help.doit.im/group/topic/60
I prefer to use the contexts as ... well, contexts. I use the Context feature only for "main contexts" ("context types") that I want to have the lists auto-grouped by. I have only about half a dozen main contexts, because I do not want it too divided or the list of contexts too long. For example I have a "main context" called @Person. In addition I can have as many detailed contexts as I want, defined as tags, for example tags for John, Linda, Lawyer, Handyman etc. (I would like to have better "integration" between tags and contexts, though.)
I understand your request, though, if you are using contexts for your "roles". For exactly the same reason as you indicate, I have suggested a "group by goal" option for the Projects list.
Personally I am not very interested in a separate "Areas" feature, not if it is not extremely well integrated with the other Tags etc. If a permanent global switch is required by some users (to hide their private stuff when at work etc) I would suggest that such a "permanent global list & menu filter" could be programmable using any set of regular tags. (And contexts, projects and goals should be able to have inheritable tags to facilitate both the definition of this "permanent" global filtering and for temporary ad hoc filtering of the list in front of you, using the tag buttons only, with no need to save a filter,) -

@Folke
When I walk into my office sometimes I just want to be able to hide my "home" projects. Soemtimes I want to see the whole projects list but other times I just want to focus on my wok projects.
@Folke
Thanks for your thought on this.
I had a simple work around which still works on the iphone/ipad and that was to group projects by context. It was easy and worked great.
I don't know why that feature was taken away. There is no way to sort/group projects on the web version. I left Nirvana because I was able to do more w/ DOIT but this upgrade was really a down grade.
And what about resizing the column on the left to see long named projects why was that changed.......

So disappointing.
Default sort order of projects is that the newest is at the top? Are you kidding me?
I had already figured out a work around to group projects using an ^ or an ! or an * in front of the alpha name. Now, having invested that time, it no longer works.
I would be happy to go "pro" and spend money to support a better product development strategy. I already pay annual fees to Dropbox. SmartSheet, Google, and others. But, when decisions like this one are made, it gives me less confidence that the product is headed in the right direction.
When the basics like sorting aren't a priority, the chances of getting other stuff right are diminished, IMHO. -

Hi,
Sorry for this problem.
The newest should be at the bottom. We will fix this bug.
For the old projects' order, you could manually sort to make them listed as you want. -

What about grouping the projects by context?
And please consider automatic alphabetical sort for projects. Please change it back to the way it was.

Hi,
Refresh your website to have a check if you can find a tool option called "Sort projects: by Alphabet "when you click the settings button on web version.
Q: What about grouping the projects by context?
A: We will consider it seriously. -

AWESOME! Thank you. Please, please consider grouping projects by context again.

Why would you group projects by context - errand projects, computer projects ??? I guess not. I suppose you are useing contexts as a workaround for Work vs Home. In that case a much more powerful and useful feature that would give you this capability and a lot more is inheritable tags for Goals, Projects and Contexts. By tagging a Gola as "Home" all its projects and tasks would be tagged with "Home" and you could easily filter by that in any list.
I think alphabetical and manual sorting are both OK for the Projects list. What I would find really useful is the option to have the projects grouped by Goal -

In the new V4 apps,we remove it. If you need this feature,we will do a research on it and consider this seriously. -

@wendy_only & all
I believe the strong feelings on this subject are due the the fact that some people use contexts not as GTD contexts but as a workaround for GTD areas of aesponsibility (or rather "groups of areas of responsibility", such as Personal and Professional).
It is quite pointless to classify a whole project by GTD context, because the tasks in it will typically be done in very different contexts. But the project as a whole does certainly belong to a certain area of responsibility.
What I think Doit should actually consider is how to ensure that people can classify their projects by area of aesponsibility and entire groups of such AoRs (e.g. Personal, Non-Profit, Business).
The easiest way (and most flexible way for future enhancement and for different kinds of user needs) that I can think of is:
- allow Goals, Projects and Context to have Tags
- let these Tags be automatically applied (inherited) to everything "inside" these Goals, Projects and Contexts
With those simple steps alone people can begin to use the quick Tag filter in all lists for all kinds of very useful purposes. And you can go on from that basis with other useful functionality, such as:
- implement a global filter switch for the whole app, where people can associate a few Tags such as "Work" and "Private" with positions of the switch to "permanently" hide everything that they do not want to see (or do not want colleagues to see)
- allow grouping and filtering of the project list itself as has been requested here (why not? but probably not necessary if you have the above.)

@Folke - Very well said!
This is major issue for me. I still have the old versions on my ipad/iphone that I can use. If I'm at work (most of the time) I want to see only my work projects. If I'm at home I want to see only my home projects.
I think allowing tagging of projects and sorting/grouping by tag for a project is a must have feature. -

Hi,
Thank you for your suggestion. There are users who use contexts not as GTD contexts but as a workaround for GTD areas of responsibility. We have the plan to offer Area. But it will not be soon. We will consider your advice seriously. -
01/11/2014 10:38#29PRO
@wendy_only
May I give Doit a piece of advice? Base any future "areas" feature on regular Tags! Why?
1) Because you already have so many features in Doit that are not fully "connected" or fully "utilized", e.g. Contexts and Tags that are totally disconnected even though they are both used primarily for GTD contexts (or energy or other such situational task selection factors). It would get messy with yet another uncoordinated feature; better to harmonize it to make it both simpler and more powerful at the same time.
2) Because those people (like avolosik and many others) who want to be able to switch the whole app between an "on duty mode" and an "off duty mode" (often called "workspace" separation); have different needs from those people (like me) who want to use "areas" mainly for GTD planning purposes (to make sure I have not forgotten to list anything important; and to consider whether all this is really necessary etc). And there can be some overlap, too - certain work responsibilities on your time off and vice versa. If you base all "area" related functionality on regular Tags, and make Goals and Projects etc taggable, with one or more tags, all auto-inherited down to the task level, you will make it possible for both kinds of people to tag their goals and/or projects etc with one or more tags for whatever such needs they have, and to filter as they please, in combination with their other tags, for both kinds of purposes. Some people want to do both. And if one day in the future you implement a permanent "area switch" (workspace selector) all you need to do is let people connect a few of their existing tags to that switch.
3) Your Goals feature is very nice, but underutilized. It could be used for so much more! In this case, by simply being able to tag the goals (auto-inherited tags) with a tag for the "area" (or whatever) you can do a lot of very useful filtering already (both quick tag filtering and advanced saved filtering), without even having a permanent "area switch". And if/when you introduce you permanent switch one day all this groundwork can be used for it. -

I agree with Folke - a simple fix is to use project tags and have them sortable/groupable. This allows a lot of flexiblitiy and like I've said it was this way in the past. I can't understand why you changed it.
