I agree that the Today list is one of the more obvious places where I had expected to see manual sorting implemented as an option (although personally I believe I would probably still use context grouping more often). The other obvious place for manual sorting is within projects ("real" projects), especially if they have a tail of not-yet active tasks that would be easier to look at if they appeared in a realistic order regardless of which "box" ("status") they belong to.
But I would like to stress that the Today list in its present form is not fully useful and should not be the place to implement such manual sorting. Today is not a separate "Box" (not a "Status") under any circumstances, and with its present characteristics it should constitute only a "Today group" within Scheduled (i.e. Scheduled for Today).
What we need is a brand new "Attention Today" list (which could be called Today or Starred or Dashboard or Focus or whatever) which replaces the old Today list, and which can hold tasks of all statuses (Next, Waiting, Someday, Scheduled, Inbox) - just like starred lists usually do in all other apps. On this list we could, at our own discretion, gather anything and everything we want to be aware of today, e.g. scheduled appointments, next actions that we hope to be able to fit in, waiting for actions that we need to think about whether we need to remind someone about, or someday actions that we want to analyze for feasibility. Etc.
The DoitNow feature is a neat possible addition to such a Today list, but it is not even nearly as necessary as having a proper "Attention Today" list in the first place.
(BTW, they have already said that DoitNow will be re-implemented, so you need not worry about that.)
I like everything about the new version with the exception of not having the ability to manually order my tasks in Today.
Please give us the ability to manually order tasks in Today; or bring back DoIT Now as a seperate list from Today that can be manually sorted.
Thank you.

Hi,
We are developing Doit Now now. And we have the plan to make it as a seperate list from Today. Now on web version, you can do it by clicking the button at right of the Doit Now group bar.
Shall you need any help or have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me back.
Thank you for your support!
Best regards,
Doit.im Team

Thank you. If you implement a Doit Now list that is separate from Today and can be manually sorted, I think that would be OUTSTANDING.
Do you have a targeted date which it would be released? A week, a month, 6 months? -

I am not sure I understand. Please enlighten me.
Doit Now used to be a subset of scheduled-for-Today, and it used to be manually sortable. How could it possibly be of any help if that same former subset were now to appear on a separate list? It is still a subset, and the subset is still based on what has been scheduled-for-Today.
Or are you saying the flash icon will now be applicable to any task anywhere? Without really moving them to scheduled-for-Today or Doit Now at all? That they would remain on their "home" list and be visible in both places? In that case it is good. That would be the "Attention Today" functionality I have been referring to.
I think there is a very easy way to make absolutely everybody happy:
- continuity in the way it all looks
- keep time planners happy (i.e. non-GTD people why actually COMMIT to do everything they star.)
- give all users the ability to tentatively star FOR ATTENTION too, more things than they commit to, from any lists
- keep Doit Now as the subset it is (it seems to be quite a popular feature)
- allow the manual sorting that has been requested
What is needed to accomplish this is only:
- key: in Scheduled (in addition to the existing groupings Tomorrow, Next Week etc), introduce two new such groups, Overdue and Today, where items scheduled/(commite for today or before today can truly "live"
- automatically star all these Scheduled Overdue and Today tasks every day at midnight to make them visible in Today (but leave them on the Scheduled list where they "live"; and let people unstar them later if they do not want to see them in Today)
- allow people to star anything anywhere (Next, Waiting, Someday, future Scheduled).
- never move or change anything just because it is starred; leave everything on its "home" list totally unchanged (but when starred then also show it in Today, of course).
- introduce a manual sorting option for the Today list
This means time planners can go ahead and schedule (commit) as much as they want to, just as before, and thereby move the tasks away from Next or Waiting or wherever these tasks were before. But they will no longer have a star for this move, they will need to set the start date/time as for any other scheduled task (this design change that has already been made, and I think it is good).
This also means that people in turbulent environment can tentatively star whatever they want to without thereby destroying anything or hiding or moving or changing anything - if you change your mind you just unstar it later and there will be no trace at all of any of this starring/unstarring.
And Doit Now could stay in place just as it was, as a subset of the Today list (with the only difference that the Today list will be able to hold starred Next, starred Waiting, starred Someday and starred future Scheduled, whatever you want to star),
And people could order the Today list manually, if they want. Everybody happy :-)

I think this would be great. Do you have an estimated release date? -

I have just read the above, and think it sounds great, I am looking forward to the above.
but just checking, I have to choose my items in today with doit now icon just to sort them? why can i not just drag them up and down in the list in the viewing window, i am sure I could a day ago, but now I have to doit now, or am I doing something wrong?

Hi,
Which view do you point to? In Today view, you can manual sort tasks now on windows version. In Next box,you can do it. Later you will be able to manual sort the tasks in Doit Now in Today box.
