OK, to update you, I did a restart and obtained a .NET framework unhandled exception (which occurred in a component of the application). Incidentally, I'm running Windows 8.1 64 bit. Details of the error are as follows:

OK. I think I have solved my problem. The error I received may be an irrelevant distraction or caused by trying to launch the application. To be a little more precise, on previous versions that I have installed on PCs, the app launches automatically and a window opens during startup. Now, after a little bit of investigation (using the task manager), I see that the Windows 8 version also launches on startup, but a window does not open. As such, to "see" the app, I need to open the app from the system tray of my desktop. So, in summary, I think the application is starting up correctly, it is just that the window is not immediately visible and needs opening using the system tray icon.

Now, the error I received may have been a result of trying to start the application when it is already running in the background (possibly multiple times due to impatience!!!)

Now if the app starts running automatically when you start the PC,the Windows app will not open the main window. Do you mean that you want it open?
