I forgot to say: It is hard to benefit from a search capability i free text cannot be searched.
Also, creating a filter, there is no text search for projects or tags. There is only a drop down and scroll. It would be very helpful to have a search that matched as you type the name of the project or tag.
Thank you
Julian

@Jgoldman
Hi,
Thank you for your feedback!
Q:It is difficult to create a useful filter without an "or" function.
A:We have the plan to improve the Filter feature. We will add an "or" function to Filter.
Q: Do you mean that you want to search the project when you select the project in the projects list during creating Filter?
A: Also, creating a filter, there is no text search for projects or tags. There is only a drop down and scroll. It would be very helpful to have a search that matched as you type the name of the project or tag.
Q: I forgot to say: It is hard to benefit from a search capability i free text cannot be searched.
A: You can search free text in search box.
Thank you for your support!
Best regards,

I think it is important to distinguish between three very different needs when we talk about "filter" and "search" etc. and it may be necessary to even have different buttons (and defaults etc) for these three different kinds of uses:
1) Search for misplaced or lost items - this is usually a global search across all lists. You typically do not need to save the search. The search is often text based (title, description, comments, etc) , but can in part be based on other task properties (tags, project, context, goal, priority etc)
2) Custom lists - this is usually also a global search, but always saved with a name in order to be reused. It is generally based on task properties (tags, project, context, goal, priority etc) but can sometimes be text based if the user has adopted some form of naming convention using prefixes etc for properties which Doit does not support. The overall aim here is to be able to do very exact (often complex) filtering for permanent use (custom lists)
3) Temporary reduction of tasks on the current list. This is a local list search and typically should not be saved. The overall aim here is speed and convenience. Ideally it should be as quick and easy to use as the old tag filter, but more powerful in that it would allow you to use not only tags but all task properties (context, goal, project, priority etc).
I agree that OR filtering and in particular NOT filtering are extremely important, and AND filtering is also useful for those people who apply tags very generously. -

Thank you for expanding and clarifying - I agree with your detailed analysis.
Wrt to the responses to my post:
Q: Do you mean that you want to search the project when you select the project in the projects list during creating Filter?
I meant that I can't remember the name of every project so I would like to search for a project and have it located or identified in some way.
Q: I forgot to say: It is hard to benefit from a search capability i free text cannot be searched.
A: You can search free text in search box.
I was referring to free text as part of a save search -
