@Jgoldman
Hi,
Press “Enter” on the keyboard and you can edit the selected task.
Please click the link below to know all the shortcut on Mac version:

Best regards,
Doit.im Team
But, once add a task and then immediately want to edit it, I can't simply edit the text in place.
have to:
double click the task, then click "Edit"
or
right-click and select edit
Neither choice is ideal. Edit in place would be much better.
Also, the quick add should allow the use of the commands that Smart Add permits.
Thank you
Julian

Thank you.
I propose that double clicking the task should allow editing the task text in place, without opening the full editing box. -

I think double clicking should edit too. The app looks fantastic but is missing a number of usability features like this.

Hi,
Now it will go to the task viewing page when you double click the task bar. Do you want to change this for editing the task?
Best regards,

Yes, because the task viewing page contains buttons for "convert to project", "send to", and "edit".
If you double click and go to edit mode, "convert to project" could be in the edit mode. The "edit" button won't be needed. -

I agree and believe that task viewing and task editing could probably all be on one and the same page, just like on the iPhone, and with "expand" options for the description if it is too long, and an "expand" option to see subtasks etc, and in general move down all the time-related properties (e.g. all-day, deadline etc) further down, because in GTD very few tasks have fixed dates or times. The important things to have high up - immediately after the expandable description and subtasks are organization (project/goal etc) and selection parameters (context/tags/priority) and the GTD category (i.e. "box": Next, Waiting, Someday or Calendar/Tickler aka Scheduled; default: Next).
I agree it should be very easy to open this/view edit screen and to make changes. -

@Jgoldman
Hi,
Do you mean that you want that the task viewing and task editing could probably all be on one and the same page? -

@Folke
Hi,
We have the plan to make it. But it is not so easy as you thought. It need us save the information as soon as you update it. We will work hard to find a way to solve this issue.
Thank you for your suggestion.

@wendy_only
Or maybe it is simpler to just make the edit screen very "nice" (practical etc) to look at, such that no separate view screen is needed, but prompt the user to "save changes" if he/he has changed anything? For example, a "save" button that changes color if something has been changed, and a direct question if the user tries to leave the page if there are unsaved changes? I don't know; just an idea. -

Another issue with task edit mode is that the window remains in front of all other programs.
This is a problem since I switch to other programs (e.g. email) to copy and paste text into the task (main task line or notes section). I don't see any benefit of making the task window remain in front.

Hi,
Do you mean then the edit window remains in front when you focus to other apps? The chrome browser will be in front when I focus on it during editing the task. Could you please tell me more details? -

I am using the OS X version and the edit window stays in front of other windows/apps.

Hi,
Please tell me the version number of your Doit.im for Mac app.
Could you please tell me the name of "other windows/apps" so we can test it ? -

Version 4.0.3 (41140111)
The edit window is in front of every program I test: Safari, Firefox, Evernote, Outlook, Power point, etc -

Hi,
Please try to use Tab to go to other apps or consecutive click on other app's window. -
03/21/2014 09:19#18PRO
I do that. The Task edit window still stays in front of all other windows I select.
Screen shot attached.

+1 for just an edit mode rather than a view mode. View mode is redundant really.
Also - personally i prefer auto save. -

+1 for autosave

@philcuddy @Jgoldman
Hi,
We will check this issue further.
About the autosave issue: do you mean that you want to make the editing page and the viewing page at the same page? -
03/23/2014 12:55#22PRO
I would like that. Having two pages / two modes, slows me down.
-
03/23/2014 13:29#23PRO
Let me clarify my previous comment and add more context:
In a task list view (the view that shows one line of each task): I would like to edit that line in the same page. That is ideal for correcting or clarifying text, especially immediately upon creating a new task.
As discussed in another entry, the tags should be shown in the same one-line view to make sure they are complete and correct.
But there also should be an easy way to open the task to view and edit. That could be with Cmnd-I, double-click , spacebar etc.
Also need a way to leave editing mode and go back to list view - escape would make sense. Or Cmnd-i again.
Also need an easy way to undo changes and revert to previous version of task if a number of changes made in one editing session were incorrect.
Btw, the Doit iPhone interface has many wonderful features. Perhaps your iPhone team can take a frsh look at the Mac version and apply some of those workflow ideas to the OS X version.
Thank you
