I agree. But preferably not in the old way where items are moved away from their home list (Next, Waiting, Scheduled etc), but in the more normal way (like in Gmail and other todo apps) that items are starred for your attention such that you can see them clearly both in their home list AND can also see all your starred items in the special Today/Starred/Focus list.

But regardless of this, I still agree with you that starring and un-starring is such a frequent operation that a direct one-click icon for toggling the setting is justified.

Here is an additional suggestion: If a particular action MUST be done today it would be appropriate to designate this action as Scheduled (Calendar) for Today. It should then not only be starred but should also be visible also under Scheduled, in a group called Today, such that we have a complete list under Scheduled of all the actions that are firmly scheduled for a particular day.
