Coming from a GTD background, I think there is a much simpler solution to your suggestion number 1:
You are absolutely right that many things (most things) do not really need to be done on a particular day. These are usually Next actions (by GTD definition). This is what the Next list is for. And if you like, you can use the Priority field to make the list more easily readable. By avoiding unnecessary dates altogether you save a lot of work, and you also avoid cluttering your Scheduled list and avoid having things showing up (or making sounds) when you do not want it.
For tasks that cannot be done until a certain date at the earliest, GTD has its "Tickler file", which is what I primarily use Doit's Scheduled list for. These tasks will show up on the first possible date, and if you do not want to do the task on that day you just put it in Next along with all other committed and actionable actions.
I think maybe the main difficulty for people who are not used to GTD is the fact that you are supposed to scan (review) your Next and Waiting For lists every day. The initiative is yours, not some timer's. This can perhaps be a burden for someone who is not used to it (but you could set up one single timer for checking your lists once per day ;-). It also helps to use the Priority coding, which helps you avoid scanning/reviewing the low priority actions every day if you do not have enough time.
Floating event, Google Contacts integration, and nagging alarm / insistent alarm
Hi Doit.im Dev,
Coming from DGT GTD user (Android), there are 3 features that I really like :
1. Floating event : some things don't really need to be done at the exact day but we need to be reminded about it. This type of event / reminder will be carried over to the next day if we don't get it done.
For example : I need to take my dog to vet once a month, but don't need to be at specific date. This is where floating event come to play. It will start reminding me at, for example, date 1 at 8:00. And will continue reminding me the next day, and the day after, and so on at 8:00 until I tick it as done.
2. Google contacts integration : as the name says it should integrate with google contact / contacts on my phone. So a specific contact can be reached within one click from reminder / event / doit.im app. And we'll decide whether to call / messages / email the contact.
3. Nagging alarm : reminders that will keep remind me every interval of times (for example every 5 minutes, or every 20 seconds) in case I miss / didn't hear the alarm.
Insistent alarm : reminder that keep repeating until I open the event or open the app.
I really hope that doit.im developer can add those features of DGT GTD, because I think those three features are very good.
Cheers,
Freddy
