Smart Add a start date AND a deadline

I would like to Smart Add a DEADLINE to a task. It's good to add a START date, but then when a task can take several days to complete (via WAITING for others, etc.) I would also like a reminder of when that task really needs to be completed, i.e. DEADLINE.
I'm trying to bulk-add a list of tasks each with START DATE and DEADLINE (and tags and contexts etc.)

I'd use something like | because it seems like a hard edge and is pretty easy to type on US/International keyboards (i'm Dutch). Or possibly something like the $ or % because they are right next to !, @, # which are already used. (might be less intuitive but more easy to learn)

I like the idea of using "|" because it's simple.

In fact I now bulk add tasks with all tags and contexts, and for DEADLINE I insert the word "by" and then the "DEADLINE-DATE" so that it shows up in the task itself. e.g. Do this task @garden #urgent by 2016-04-01. Shame I cannot add a colour to make the date stand out. Or even an Auto-priority-1 for any deadline due within 7 days (or something).
