I agree.
Reviewing the lists and planning - tentatively or more definitely - what to focus on next (e.g. the rest of today or at least a few hours) is such an important and frequent part of the daily use of a task manager app that it would indeed be valuable to have it much more streamlined.
I think it is wrong to even have a separate "Daily plan" view that we need to enter separately. I think the best and easiest would be to have this "planning" ability built straight into the regular lists, visible all the time. All it would take is a regular "star" (or other such clickable icon), just like in Gmail or in the majority of other task manager apps, where you can star an item and still see the item in its list (right where it was before you starred it) and can also see the starred item in a separate Today list (also sometimes called Starred, Focus, Dashboard etc).
With this kind of simple flag you can accomplish the daily planning within the Next list itself. You can group the next list as you please, as usual, e.g. by project or by context, and can see which tasks in each group are already starred for today, and can see which ones remain, and you can easily change which ones are starred and not starred and thereby adapt to what new things have happened during the day.
For those who would like to use time estimates of starred actions, these estimates could be shown both for each group and for the list as a whole. (Personally I do not have time to estimate time ;-)
Similarly, on the "People Owe Me" list (Waiting For; for someone else to do) you could mark (star) which items are likely to need your attention today, perhaps needing you to stay close, prepared to sign for a pending delivery, or possibly needing you to make a quick follow-up/reminder call. Since these actions would stay on your Waiting list even when starred you could easily revise the starred selection during the course of the day on the Waiting list itself. And you would not have to write separate follow-up actions for Today / Next.
The absence of such a simple and customary "planning" feature in the lists is one of the major shortcomings of Doit, in my opinion.
More user friendly reviewing and planning
Hi,
I am pleased to have feature where I can plan and review a day, but that user interface is not my cup of tea. There are no keyboard shortcuts for next item, arrows to the next tasks are in a bad place (bottom left) buttons are far away from that (top right), estimate time at the bottom (really?), and delete in the last corner :D
On small screen, it would be sustainable, but with widescreen.. I don't know :)
I think, that this is a pro feature, but in my opinion, it is not so pro..
You are getting better and better, keep up and have a nice day :)
