It would be helpful when creating search filters to be able to add "someday" as a "start time" search criteria. Right now, there are only time-oriented criteria (one week, e.g.).
It would also be helpful under filter creation to add the ability to EXCLUDE tags, start times, etc. That way, I could search all tags, except _____. Or I could search all start times except "someday".

You are right and I think I have seen the Doit team declare here on the forum that both of these things will be fixed:
- it will be possible to filter by "box" (i.e. "start time" as they now seem to call it, i.e. Next, Waiting, Someday etc
- it will be possible to combine different logical criteria (AND, OR, NOT etc). I agree that NOT (i.e. exclusion) is a very powerful and realistic way of pruning a list from irrelevant items
I might add a couple of related wishes:
- be able to save a filter without specifying which list it refers to, and instead be able to engage this same filter on any list (Next, a Context list, a Project list etc) that I happen to be looking at
- be able to filter by Goal (this has been acknowledged by the team)
- be able to use simple filtering criteria (exclusion etc) of Tags, Contexts, Projects etc straight in the list without even having to declare or save a filter for it - just click the things you want to include or exclude straight on the screen
Perhaps I can also be permitted to comment on the term "start time". This is a very unfortunate choice of words, particularly if you follow GTD. For example, the difference between Next and Waiting has nothing at all to do with time but only with WHO will do the task. Both are equally imminent. They could well turn out to be completed today if only the the person responsible for it decides to do it today. This decision is something the person will make based on the task's priority and on how the person's situation develops during the day (location, tools, people, time, energy etc).
