What is the function of goals?

I noticed that, at least in the web version, you can only move tasks to a "goal" which do not have a project set.

Is there a reason for this? In what way are goals helpful, and is there a reason why I cannot add tasks there which belong to another project?

Hello,

Any outcome that's going to require more than one item, in some sequence of tasks and projects in order to be able to achieve that outcome, that's a goal. Both tasks and projects can be assigned to a goal. Once added to a goal, tasks will go to Next by default. You can see all tasks/projects included the goal when you unfold it. In addition, you can complete all tasks/projects by completing the goal they belong to.

Q: is there a reason why I cannot add tasks there which belong to another project?
A: Tasks under a project should have the same goal as the project's, so you cannot add a gopal to a task with a project.

Okay, goals is a bit clearer for me. Another person said on these forums: a task which is not part of a project is too insignificant to 'further' a goal.

But I have another question: is there a reason why it isn't possible to add a project to more than one goal?

For example, I have two goals:

1. raise happy, healthy dogs
2. make my partner happy

Let's say one dog is mine and one is hers. If I have a project "exercise dogs", it will contribute to goal 1 as well as goal 2.

Of course, then I am considering the 'goals' as life goals. Or should I consider goals as separate projects? E.g. "learn the Argentine Tango" or "Get a driver's license". But then, what is the difference with regular projects?
