I was happy to pay the yearly fee for Todoist after the free trial is gone. I also have a yearly membership on Doit.im.
Now I'm thinking to get back to Doit.im because I truly think that Doit.im is the best out there that fits my personal needs. I like Doit.im but the problem is that there's little mentions on what's going on in the background that make many of us have wonders about the future of Doit.im.
OK Linjiani has been saying over and over that Doit.im will not be closed and more development is coming, but I think many members will agree with me that something is going wrong and we're concerned about Doit continuity.
One of the main things I love about Todoist is how active they are about their releases and social media. They provide tips & tricks all the time and study cases. They also commit to deadlines.
[DEADLINES]: Linjiani mentioned last month that Rush and the new Doit.im version are coming out in November. I've been waiting this entire month to see this in action. It's almost the end of November now and all Doit.im support say is that they're working on it.
Can we have more transparency? Doit.im really need to understand that answers like "We'll have this ready soon" or "We are aware of the issue and will address it in the next update" don't really cool people down.
Almost everyone I saw posting in the community doesn't have much interest in Rush, and so do I. All I care about is Doit.im - that's the product I chose and you guys decided to focus on something else. There's many Project Collaboration Software out there and I don't use them because I work as a freelancer and I don't have a team to work with... This is why Doit.im is absolutely amazing and works best for me.
Can you please - once and for all - provide a transparent deadline or road-map or list things that are going to be included in the next update of Doit.im?
please, Please, PLEASE don't start explaining what's in Rush because that's not the product I decided to pay for in the past 3-4 years - It's Doit.im premium that I've been paying for all that time.
OK - Unless Rush is actually the new version of Doit.im then yeah I can understand... But if it's going to be a separate product then please let me know about Doit.im and its future (hopefully not in the same sentences Linjiani was mentioning over and over on the other thread "Losing confidence in doit.im").
Best regards,
Wassim

I'm pleased @wassim is now in a better place. What about the rest of us who share the exact same questions and concerns that were expressed above??
I understand the need for commercial confidence, but saying that a new version of doit.im will be available on dd-mon-yy is not sharing anything that is of particular value to a competitor, and does a great deal to allay the fears of the paying customers. -
11/29/2015 10:27#12PRO
@thealbs Hey, please don't worry. Doit wil not stop updating. We really attach importance to our customers. The update plan is just delayed, yet it will come someday when we finish updating. Really sorry for the delay. =_=
-
11/29/2015 12:35#13PRO
@linjiani - to allay your concerns, I am not worried. I am simply disappointed at the lack of transparency, and all of the concerns expressed at the start of this thread are merely reenforced by the latest 'coming soon' message.
You are clearly restricted in what you can say, either for reasons of confidentiality or because the developers simply do not know when it will be ready, but that doesnt really help the consumer.
A few of us on this forum experienced similar issues with another GTD app provider who eventually moved to 'total radio silence' and, as a result, doit.im benefitted from our move to your platform. I see the pattern repeating itself, but this time with people moving away to the next best thing.
It is most definitely a buyer's market with a large number of apps to choose from and a relatively easy process to swap (although slightly more difficult when we cannot extract our own data to flat files - maybe there is a message in there?), so please do start prividing some more definitive information to ally these fears. -
11/29/2015 13:17#14PRO
@thealbs I agree. Currently I am using two Apps because I am still not 100% sure. Can you imagine I have duplicated the same tasks in both Doit.im and Todoist.
Currently I am enjoying Todoist better, but I know that when Doit.im address the issues we've been mentioning over and over, it will become better than Todoist.
I think it's time for me to focus on Todoist and will give Doit.im another try in few months. -
11/30/2015 04:02#15PRO
@thealbs Hi Thealbs, thanks for your understanding. We will do better in transparency in the future. When there is some definite information, we will tell you asap. We promise. Thanks.
-
11/30/2015 23:08#16
Yes, I gave up on Doit.im as well and went back to MLO, which has some great features. The 'complete sub-tasks in order' is particularly good for maintaining focus. But MLO was just too awkward without a web app, and their synchronisation was patchy.
Like wassim, I've now reverted to Todoist, which is a well-oiled platform. I combine this with Workflowy for planning. I still think that Doit.im has great potential for serious project management, and am pleased that Linjiani is keeping us informed. I'll wait to see if the new developments measure up to this promise. -

@kmaustral Thanks for you confidence in Doit. We will do better in the future.
-
02/03/2016 22:02#18
I've been checking back occasionally, but I see that the promised development has not eventuated. I presume it's some legal problem. Maybe someone else can draw on what DoIt has achieved and create something more flexible. In the meantime, I've learnt to use Workflowy for project management. It's a very different system to DoIt, but it supports a dynamic community who are contributing extensions and styles. All the best.

02/04/2016 00:08#19PRO
@kmaustral Hi there, sorry for the delay of new release. As we are also developing the new product "Rush" now, we have to taking more time developing Doit.im. We will work harder.
-
02/04/2016 13:27#20PRO
The effort spent on developing Rush could well turn out to be a disaster. We have often heard Linjiani make reference to the following statement by Doit's CEO Adams Xu: http://help.doit.im/topics/6697 If that represents the height of Doit's understanding of the marketplace it may take a very long time before we see any improvement in the "task organizational" aspects that so many of have expressed request about.
It appears that Doit have perhaps identified the human condition that many people in the world do not like to analyze their own situation and define concisely what they need to do (define tasks, projects etc and organize these). This is probably quite true - but why would Doit try to expand their customer base among people who do not want to think? There are plenty of people already who do like to think and who do like to organize their lives. Most of these people are using other apps than Doit. That's a good size market for you to go after! Simply be better than the competition. Don't try to go after people who have no needs or desires!
Says Adams Xu: "Tasks, which are the core of Doit.im, have to be manually input. For most people, it is a very unpleasant procedure".
So, in desperate attempt to eliminate this inevitable reflective thought process Doit are launching Rush as a way to more automatically generate tasks from sources such as email. Are we supposed to say "Wow"?
Adams Xu: "... the improvements that can be made to Doit.im are very much limited in the level of visual designs and interactive experiences,"
So wrong, so wrong, so wrong. The possible improvements are definitely not limited to aesthetics and handling. This forum itself (and the forums of Doit's competitors, too) contain oodles of proof that there is very much indeed that remains to be done also in terms of how tasks, projects, goals etc can be ORGANIZED and VIEWED. This goes way beyond aesthetics and handling, as it is determined by what INFORMATION we might want to put together in various different kinds of views for different purposes, and what kind of information we would then need to have input in the first place for our tasks etc in order for such viewing to be possible.
So, please hear my message: Go back to basics! Make sure you have the most practical app in the world for GTD based task management - organizing, viewing, handling & aesthetics! That is how you will gain users' trust and respect.
Do not waste time on ill-conceived automation and integration - this can come later, and very selectively, for features that really can be implemented safely, reliably and have some true good purpose. (But please do not waste more time on silly, childish stuff just because it is "cool".) -
02/05/2016 00:28#21PRO
@Folke Thanks for your continuous advice for us. We are mainly working on automation and integration, but we will also develop other basic features. ^_^
-
02/05/2016 13:25#22PRO
I am sure that automation and integration has an initial appeal, and maybe even a temporary wow effect, especially on young people who have nothing to compare with - but will they stay long enough to pay for Pro?
From what I have seen on this forum (and similarly on other app forums), what the stable users (paying customers) are actually asking for is more basic stuff such as backup-export options, more flexible filtering options, viewing/hiding options by Area, hierarchical contexts, task dependencies and other such "basic" features - and I have seen lots of people leaving Doit as a result of the absence of development and absence even of the slightest sign of interest on Doit's part for all such "basic" features.
What we have seen is some really silly and childish stuff. For example, those silly pie charts that show you how many completed actions you have - who on earth needs that? Or the half-baked solution to task sequencing in projects - where you destroyed the auto-sort by priority and replaced that with an extremely rigid show-all-show-one option that operates across all projects. Who on earth needs that? Even Nirvana and Omnifocus do it better by ar least allowing you to set that individually for each project. And Zendone and GTDNext go all the way and let you do it properly, by allowing you to manually add additional visible next actions to each project individually.
I do not believe it is a recipe for success to leave potentially good features half-finished or 90% finished and instead add a ton of new bloat on top of that.
For example, you have a Goals feature that holds tremenedous potential, but which is virtually useless because you have not added the necessary viewing and filtering options.
And calendar integration, where you have, in a way, the most powerful integration I have seen, allowing users to sync with lots of different calendars, but which I cannot use because it deletes calendar entries when I delete the task from Doit - which is unacceptable if you share calendars with others or if you want to keep the calendar as a journal record of events that someone had scheduled.
How about at least finishing some of all those existing basic features instead of "rushing off" into some new willderness? How can you even believe that task management can ever be done successfully without the user having to reflect and decide things "manually"? Maybe some people like to be like obedient robots, but most people that I know like to decide things by themselves, like to make their own plans, and like to be in control of their own lives. And most successful people that I know prefer to be able to make last-minute decisons whenever possible, because things change so fast that rigid time-planning quickly becomes an obstacle that they want to avoid to the greatest extent possible. Enter GTD and situation-based decision making. -
05/04/2016 03:29#23PRO
I agree with much of what is posted here. Doit.im is a superior product to Todoist, but it is falling behind in terms of integration. I have been unable to get its Window 7 version to work on Windows 10. It constantly freezes. The plugin extension offered for the Chrome browser is useless. Todoist continues to add integration across platforms, browsers and new tools. I don't see this happening with Doit.im which I fear being left behind. Although the design of Doit,im is superior, it seems stuck.

Hey Linjiani,
What's up dude? It's been 6 months since I posted this message, a bit around 5 months since your CEO Mr Adams posted his famous letter, but Doit has failed to provide more transparency about the internal changes going on both on Doit and Rush.
Please allow me to share these two links for two of your competitors about the Change Log happening on a monthly (or weekly) basis. These guys have dedicated pages on their sites just for transparency and for change logs to share with clients wanting to learn about new features and addressing bugs:
http://test.nozbe.com/
https://todoist.com/Changelog
In my name and I'm sure enough in the name of many in the community, I advise you to share some insights and details on what's been built since the day I posted this message. Six months is a whole lot of time, and I think we deserve to know how's it going and whether you guys are moving in the right direction or not (because we have fair doubts that you are not - sorry).
For instance, can the Doit family be so generous and share information about the change log since 6 months, along with screenshots to added features and clear release dates of Doit and Rush? What seemed vague to figure out 6 months ago should be more clear to figure out now, don't you agree?
Now keep in mind, I'm not here to judge your work. I'm a customer. I don't own you or rule you. You are free to do anything you want. You are free to keep the software as it is for another 100 years. I don't have rights to force you to do things or ask you to do custom development. BUT - as a customer, I have the right to determine if I want to renew and pay for my membership for this service or not. It's not only me actually, it's all of us - especially here in the community. I understand that $20/year is not a big deal of money, and this is why I always advised you to revise your prices and increase it if that is needed to speed up the development and improve Doit - I am sure a lot will agree with me. However, we are the backbone of the continuity of any service. Without customers you cannot keep going on. It's not really about me. It's everyone in the community complaining, and a lot who don't even know the forum exists to complain and just give up. I believe the Doit.im customers are very loyal customers honestly. I think you guys deserve it based on what you have accomplished in the past, but I doubt this will last forever you know.
I understand maybe you don't like me coming every now and then, and posting questions about the updates. I understand that I might be bothering you and I'm very sorry about that. It wasn't my intent in first place. I just own and run a business, and Doit seems like the ideal tool to me. Though I will not die without it (in fact I've been using Todoist for the past 6 months), but your App is the closest App to what works best for me and I couldn't find a decent alternative. So yeah you should be proud of what you did, and I appreciate it... But life changes so fast. Technology is an evolving thing. What works today might not work in the future. Please understand where I am coming from. I'm not being a jerk. I'm being a good customer because I'm spreading the words. Other customers don't even have time for this and they just leave.
Linjiani my friend. I like & respect you. Please think over before replying. Don't forget my old statement, the first time you address me with a reply like "we'll do better" or any of your famous replies to similar questions will result in terminating my membership lifetime even if it became the best App in the world in the future. I'm still serious about this statement because I don't really like these replies (with all due respect to you). Thanks mate.
Best regards (and with love),

Interesting topic... I was just starting to evaluate Doit to switch here from Micromiles/Maxdone.
Was about to start paying, but now , reading these comments I started to have doubts.
Very interesting situation. -
05/08/2016 11:29#29PRO
borysr,
In my own experience it is necessary to totally ignore the discernible potential of the app and also ignore the explicit promises (or lack thereof) of the app developers. This is because the speed of development is so slow, for all developers I have come across, that you can easily switch apps several times before any developer has made even the smallest significant change to their app.
It is best to make the decision based on what the app can do for you RIGHT NOW.
In my opinion, Doit is far from perfect but it is the best choice for me right now. I have minimal hopes for its future, though, as it seems that whatever features they do add every once in a while (e.g. in v 4 a few years ago) are totally meaningless to me. But on the other hand that goes for every other app I have tried, too:
Nirvana: Also a very good and beautiful app. Maybe even the best overall (but does not have colored priorities). Virtually no development.
Zendone: Wonderful development team and community with good dialogue, powerful project features, massive development, but all in the "wrong" direction as far as I am concerned (calendar and evernote integration, both of which I have np real use for).
GTDNext: Promising approach for projects. Slow development.
Toodledo: Powerful app, some development going on, but not in the direction I would like.
Asana: powerful. fast development, but all in the "wrong" direction (teamwork). (Too clunky for my taste.)
Todoist: Powerful and beautiful, but with hopeless shortcomings. (I cannot even use this app. Would rather use paper)
IQTell: Powerful but complicated. Its strengths are useless to me (evernote and email integration). (I cannot even use this app. Would rather use paper.)
Outlook: (Clunky. Would rather use paper) -
05/18/2016 13:43#30
And I'm tired of waiting for the development of doit and moved to todoist. It is very difficult to do business on the GTD but more suitable did not find. There are of course Nirvana, but it is impossible to assign a task to the day and time, only for the day. He wrote them in support, but they do not think this feature is implemented. Doit to me died. It is unfortunate, given that I used it for about two years and paid pro version.

Have the same feeling as the author of this post and completely agree with @Folke (I saw his posts on competitors' forums and here - and I believe he is the one worthy to listen on this subject). I do not see any use for me in Rush development. Still like it - but everything seem to stop (I was looking for the updates log - and this is how I came to this thread). I do not see any updates that would improve my user experience. Completely agree @wassim & @Folke , will be trying some other products. Seems like just making the existing features blossom would make me happy and forever Pro user - but nobody seems to care.

@Linjiani
What's happening?
Message from CEO a long time promised upgrade. Frankly, I don't believe what he says.
So now it's Rush and then Doit despite the commitment to have an upgrade in Doit by the end of June.
Is there a date for launch of Rush application?
Where is the website or links to it?
Why all the privacy on this thread?
What is going on?
Can we have some transparency please?
Can you once and for all give a DEFINITE DATE for the new Doit?
Finally, just to say this is my first time to post anywhere but if I can use this opportunity to thank users like Folke etc. They are very committed customers of yours ( maybe some of them have now departed to other apps). They deserve better treatment from their supplier and at least given the respect by being given truthful and accurate information from your company.
