currently, i have to memorize which task has subtask and which do not :(
otherwise i may completely miss the subtask :(
it will be so much easier, if i can drag a task and move over another task and make it subtask.
Also, tasks with subtask are hard to differentiate with tast without subtask.
Only when i click on the task real hard, the popup comes up and say, hey you have subtask for this one.

@devvrath Thank you very much for your feedback!
1. Subtask icon shows on the task bars with subtasks. This feature has already been applied in iPhone version, new Android beta version, Mac version. And it will be also on the new web version and windows version, which are being redesigned now.
2. When mentioning it's not easy to add subtasks, what platform do you mean? Please tell us so that we may consider from the features of that platform.

1. where can i get new Android beta version?
i mostly use web, and then android to take quick inbox notes. i like the lock screen option for noting quick tasks.
2. Again, mostly web. in some of the other ones like gqueues, i noticed i can jolt down the tasks in inbox quickly and later i can just drag them on top of other and they become subtasks. here i have to plan ahead and click on the task to open a pop up and then add subtasks. hate that when i have to do more than once.
Thanks for quick reply.

@devvrath Thank you very much for your explanation!
1. We've added your email address and you'll receive invitation to join the beta test of Doit.im for Android. You'll see the latest version after you accept the invitation.
2. I've got your meaning on easily adding subtasks. For further consideration, could you please give us some examples on your subtasks? We hope to know if you use subtasks the same way as we expect our users to, that is, we use subtasks under a task as parallel things to be done within a same action, or that can be completed almost at the same time in the same place. If you use subtasks as a concept somewhat different from what we expect, we would have to think more on your side. So giving us some examples would be a good way to explain.
Look forward to your reply.

one example i used recently was booking my trip ticket. 1st subtask was to call my friend for figuring out time, 2nd task to book flight ticket, 3rd task to book hotel, 4th task to book car rental, 5th task to book event ticket for which i am going. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th needed computer and could be done all together, the 1st one needed a phone to call a friend or friends.
events date were announced in advance and they had enough tickets, but the tickets are supposed to become available after certain date. so 5th task needed date and computer.
as i was going through my day, i was remembering the list of things i needed for this task.
my initial goal was to book ticket for event, then i remembered i need hotel, then rental car and so on.
now i can make this whole thing as project too, but i felt comfortable with task under certain project as compare to project in its own.
same thing with grocery shopping. i make a task of grocery shopping.
then during my day, i remember i need apple. i can quickly add that. then i remember i need milk, i can quickly add that too and so one.
next when i am reviewing it, i will like to dump all my grocery list under grocery shopping task. rather than opening the task everytime to add 1 item.
Thanks. i got the beta version. some reason the widget do not get auto updated, especially when the phone restart. i have to wiggle around everytime and then i can see my daily list on widget. also, the app does not start automatically when the phone starts. am i missing something?
Thanks -

@devvrath Thank you very much for your detailed examples and explanations!
1. For the trip example, it is actually a multiple step task, which in our system, you are recommended to make it a project (a project in GTD is simply a multiple step task), because you are unable to do all these things together. You create a project 'xxx event trip', with 1st task to "call my friend for figuring out time", 2nd task to "book flight ticket", 3rd task to "book hotel", 4th task to "book car rental", 5th task to book event ticket. Although you tell that the 2nd, 3rd, 4th can all be done on computer, I still suggest you make them separate tasks, because neither of them can be done with just a glance, you have to compare and select, or even refer to many materials. The three things together would cost too much time and would be too big a task, cases are it is very likely you would be interrupted during the big task. So separate tasks as small and actionable as possible.
2. As for the grocery shopping, the list can be put together as subtasks under the task 'grocery shopping'. And we've made record of your idea 'dumping other tasks into one task so that they become the subtasks of the latter'. We'll give it more consideration. It is a good idea.
3. What do you mean by auto-update of widget? Could explain a bit detailedly? Thank you!
4. Auto-start of the app lays somewhere in the settings of the phone. But different phones have the option in different menus. So could you please look for it in the settings of your phone? Or could you please tell us what phone do you use? What version of Android do you use?
Have a nice day!

thanks for the info.
1) thanks
2) perfect
3) I got the beta update and some reason, the widget was not updating. i have to open the widget manually to get it update during my 1 month pro period. i moved back to stable version now.
4) again, i had this problem with the beta version.
5) what is difference between goals and project? can projects be part of a goal? like make money goal can have several projects. i tried to search on your help desk, but no luck. to me goal and projects look similar.
6) can we have tags also on main window and drag and drop on tags too.
sometime i quickly add a task and later wants to add tags or multiple tags and I got used to dragging and dropping so much, that I will prefer to drop 1 or multiple task on a tag to get it updated.
Thanks. -

@devvrath Thank you for your reply!
1. The widgets of new version are updated actually. You may open the widget list and pick the widgets for the new version, including 1*1 (add new task), 4*3 (calendar), 3*2 (task list). We've been using them ourselves. What do you mean by "not updating"? If possible, please tell us the problem in detail.
2. Projects can be contained in a goal. Task structure can be goal - project - task - subtask, or goal - task - subtask. So if you use web version, you may right click a task or a project to add a goal to it; if you use phone version, you may long-click a task or a project to move it into a goal.
3. Tag filter will be optimized but tags may not be considered to show in main window for the present. But you may tell us why do you think goal, project, context are not enough on the main windows while tags can be filtered in a certain list? Could you please tell us your exact scenario so that we may consider deeply in your side?
Have a good day!

@devvrath Thank you for your follow up!
I've just have one question in mind:
If you first add two tasks, say, Task1 and Task2, then they are two separate actions, right? Then when you want to make Task1 a part of Task2, that likely means Task2 needs two actions to complete, right? If so, that Task2 is actually a multi-step task, which in our system concept, it is a project. So in that case, we recommend you set a project, and then drag and drop the two tasks into that project.
A bit more explanation on the above example:
Because if you just put the two actions in one task, then, when you finish one action, you can not check complete the whole task, you actually have to do another action(task) maybe somewhere else or using different tools or with different persons. If you cannot finish all subtasks together in a task, then this is not a single task.
Not sure if I've made it clear.
If any further ideas or thoughts, please just feel free to discuss with us.

Hi I think I have a similar question - I am using the web browser (windows x chrome) and keep all my projects organized by goals. I enter the goals view to find a project, so when processing my inbox I would LOVE to be able to drag the task into the appropriate project. There are simply too many projects to remember where to look or what they are all named.
Is this possible? Does this makes sense?
Thank you!
