I agree, and this has been discussed before on this forum. GTD does indeed distinguish carefully between "calendar actions" (appointments etc) and "tickler file items" (premature before a certain date), just as you describe.
There are several ways to implement this. You are suggesting a special reminder. That would be fine. I think the star is also a good enough reminder, and that would be a more commonplace and familiar solution. These actions could be shown as starred Next actions, and we could unstar them when we have seen them.
(The main problem in Doit is the fact that the Today list is treated not as a normal starred list but as a totally separate "box". It is not possible now to have starred Next actions, starred Waiting For actions etc like in most other apps. http://help.doit.im/topics/2015)
Right now when I schedule a task, it appears in the today list when its start-date comes up. Since I adhere to the "holy calendar" principle, in which I only put to-do's in my calendar if they absolutely have to get done on that day/time, I would like to request an option to defer a todo to a certain week, in which in will then pop up in the next action list with a reminder instead of in the today list.
Kind regards,
Ilja

Hi,
Thank you for your feedback.
Q: I would like to request an option to defer a todo to a certain week, in which in will then pop up in the next action list with a reminder instead of in the today list.
A: I am sorry that I could not understand you well. If you want to defer a task, you can change the start time of the task. Do you mean that you only want just to get a reminder if the deadline of the task is today and leave the task in the list where it was such as Next?

The way Folke stated it seems much simpler to me!
I would also like it if the "today" box was changed into a "focus" or "starred" box, and that starring a next-action to-do doesn't remove it from my next-actions list (like in gmail). Scheduled items for today would become starred in the next-list and easily focussable in the star (or today) view.
