We've been designing the new version of web and desktop version, and making it three columns as you suggested. And also, we're planning to make default reminders optional so that our users could choose to get default reminders if they want.
Meanwhile we're developing iPhone and Android version. The iPhone version has been updated frequently during the past months. The Android version (beta) has also been updated frequently.
Since Web and desktop version are completely redesigned, we'll make more efforts on this to think it over carefully.
